Balogun, Edo State Police Boss Bows Out

 

Edo State Police Commissioner, Olayinka Balogun this morning bowed out of the police service after attaining the retirement age of 60 years.

Born in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state about 60 years ago, Balogun who enlisted in the police on August 1, 1980, rose tho the highest promotable rank in the police force as Commissioner, serving in various police commands in several states of the federation.

His service in the police took him to Enugu, Imo,Lagos, Rivers, Benue, Oyo,Ekiti, Edo states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Balogun, with Odubu, the deputy governor of Edo state Balogun who was known for transforming the places he served, attended all the training prescribed in the Nigeria Police, both within and outside the country, including the famous FBI Academy in the United States of America.

In a colorful pull-out ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, hundreds of serving and retired police officers gathered to honour the retiring police commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Hurdi in his welcome address, said it would be a disservice if Balogun had retired uncelebrated. He said it was in the character of Balogun turn around for the good, environments where he serves, adding that the Edo police command was proud of him.

According to Hurdi, Edo state recorded less crime during the period Balogun served as Commissioner’ adding “he was a dogged fighter of crime.”

Present at the pull-out parade was Edo state Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu who represented Governor Adams Oshiomhole, representatives of the Benin Monarch, Retired IGP Musiliu Smith, Retired AIG Oyakhire, and heads of other security agencies and paramilitary agencies.

Olayinka Balogun who was deployed to Edo state as Commissioner about eight months ago turns 60 tomorrow.
