My life in danger - Okadigbo’s widow

Widow of the late former Senate President, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo and Anambra North Senatorial District seat contender, Mrs. Margery Okadigbo, yesterday raised the alarm over alleged kidnap and death threats to her life. Mrs. Okadigbo who is presently in court defending the declaration of the court that she was the winner of the Anambra North Senatorial District election of April 2011 said she has been receiving kidnap and death threats from unknown persons using hidden GSM lines.

She has petitioned Anambra State Police Command through Commissioner of Police, Ballah M. Nasarawa to intimate it of the development and for a possible proactive action. In a press statement in Awka, she stated that the persistent calls have been coming since the weekend’s service of songs for her late father, Chief Obiefuna Michael Ebo, by his former colleagues at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Enugu, on Friday.

Noting that her father would be buried this weekend, June 17, at Onitsha, Mrs. Okadigbo disclosed that the unknown callers who were always in husky voices asked her: “Do you intend to move around Anambra freely? You think you will bury your father and go away unscathed?; So, you now see yourself as a Senator? Let’s wait and see.”

On possible suspects, she simply said she had no personal issues with anyone except that she was still in court trying to regain her senatorial mandate, which has necessitated numerous litigations between her and the duo of Senator Alphonsus Ubanesse Igbeke and the former Minister of Transport, Prince John Emeka and that they were the only persons she had issues with.

She noted that the Supreme Court had already fixed the final judgment on the matter for July 6. When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka told newsmen that the petition has not reached the headquarters, but assured that the command has remained committed to a 24-hour protection on citizens of the state.

Reacting to the development, Igbeke sympathized with her on the death of her father and urged her to apply for police/security cover, wondering why any right thinking person would plan to harm or disturb her this time.

In his own reaction Prince Emeka through his Media Assistant, Mr. Clem Aguiyi described the allegation as, “a gimmick by a desperate politician who’s pending cases in court holds no water.”
