Nigeria Has Helped In Restoring Peace To Liberia – Sirleaf

Speaking while receiving an honorary doctorate degree conferred on her by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Saturday during the academy’s 23rd convocation ceremony, said the academy is being held in high esteem as Nigeria’s prestigious military officers institution. The NDA Council and Academy Board had approved that an honorary doctorate degree of management science be conferred on Mrs Sirleaf.

Liberia’s President Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says Nigeria had helped in restoring peace and security to Liberia during the country’s last civil war at which a number of Nigerians lost their lives.

The Liberian president then commended the first two Liberian nationals who also graduated among the 188 graduants from the academy. She called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) continue to serve as beacon to member countries to help restore peace to Africa.

In his remark at the occasion, Commandant of the NDA Major General Chukwuemeka Onwuamaegbu said out of 42,000 applicants into the academy only 300 were offered admission during the last entry screening exercise, saying the high number of applicants made the academy one of the most competitive institution in Nigeria.

He also said over 85 percent of NDA’s post graduate students of its Post Graduate School are civilians, saying “we will continue to make prudent use of the resources made available to the academy”.
