Solomon Lar: Hausa/Fulani Can Contest Elections in Plateau

Pioneer national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Daushep Lar, has dismissed the view that only certain people in Plateau State can hold political positions in the state, saying Hausa/Fulani people were bonafide citizens of Plateau State and should be free to aspire for any office in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Jos yesterday, Lar stated that the constitution of the country has made it clear that every citizen is qualified to live anywhere and that Hausa and Fulani people are also citizens.

Lar said the people of Plateau were not known for discrimination, stressing that his days as governor “the administration involved all people irrespective of the tribe and geo-political location, the people from Anambra, Oyo, Lagos, Kaduna, and Ibadan were accommodated and they took the state as a home of hope for the hopeless.”

“It is unfortunate that Plateau has found itself in this position. You will find out that during my time as the governor of the state, government received merit award on peace because people were living peacefully and people were running to the state from northern parts of the country like Kaduna, Kano, Borno and others and they were happily accommodated.”

Lar blamed the unending crises in Plateau State on the inability of the authorities to implement the reports of various committees constituted to find out the causes of the crises, including a panel which he headed.

“And my source of worry is that we recommended a lot of issues in my committee set up to look into the Plateau State crises and if the recommendations were implemented, all theses rubbish would not be repeating itself.”

On PDP, Lar said only the Nigerian masses with the voting power to elect political office holders can determine how long the PDP will remain in government at the national level, stressing that it amounts to ‘an insult, barbaric, an act of illiteracy and undemocratic reasoning for any individual to hold that the PDP will rule for over 50 years.
