A High Court in Ahoada in Rivers State yesterday granted bail to the embattled Majority Leader, House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd.
Justice Charles Wali granted Lloyd’s request based on an exparte motion filed by his lawyer, Emenike Ebete Ebete had in the motion, urged the court to grant his client bail on health grounds.
It was also on that ground that Justice Wali ordered that a Motion on Notice be served on the state police command and the Police High Command in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the state government has raised the alarm that the Federal Government may have asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Lloyd.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, the EFCC has been instructed to take over the prosecution. “They want to take over the prosecution by ulterior means and so, plans to change the charge from attempted murder which is under the state purview, to the EFCC.
"They have planted something in Chidi Lloyd’s house which would be used against the governor," she said.
On its part, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the bail granted Lloyd and petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the matter. A statement issued by the Special Adviser, Media, to the PDP Chairman, Chief Felix Obua, the party described the bail as shocking.
