According to the official statement by Governor Kwankwaso, presented by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Director of Press and Public Relations of Gov. Kwankwaso, the visit was in continuation of their visits to former leaders and statesmen. Earlier in the evening, the governors had another closed door meeting in Abuja with former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.
The governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu who was to have been a part of the visit, was in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj.
The governors were warmly received by General Danjuma. Their agenda was not disclosed, but it was believed to be the same as when they met with former national leaders Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdussalami Abubakar.
During one of those visits, the governors said they were on a mission to rescue the country's democracy and bring about the building of national consensus.
