A political group, Osun Leadership Forum, has urged the state Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to declare the debt profile of Osun State.
A statement by the spokesperson of the group, Mr. Lanre Obisesan, said the people of Osun deserved to know the indebtedness of the state.
Obisesan, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, noted that “although nothing is wrong with borrowing, money borrowed should be properly accounted for.”
OLF, a pro-Peoples Democratic Party group, challenged Aregbesola to make public the cost of contracts executed across the state in the last 30 months.
Osun Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Sunday Akere, however, disagreed with the position of OLF, saying it was unfortunate that the PDP had failed to see that the people of Osun have decided to support Aregbesola for a second term.
Akere said, “The PDP is ridiculous in its allegation because Osun’s bond at the stock exchange was openly oversubscribed. What are they saying about borrowing?
“Can’t the PDP understand simple economic activities? If at this stage, the PDP cannot still understand that a state can go to the stock exchange to have bonds for sale, an explanation for their failure in governance is evident.”
