The Peoples Democratic Party, South-East zone, has denied ever offering anyone N3bn to impeach Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
Contrary to reports in some national dailies of April 16 and in the social media, the South-East PDP also said that it never had anytime contact Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu, to execute any impeach plan.
Uwajumogu had alleged that the PDP National Vice Chairman, South-East, Colonel Austin Akobundu (retd.), alongside other persons, offered him N3billion to facilitate the impeachment of Okorocha.
However, the party said on Thursday that the allegation in its entirety is “infantile, irresponsible and disingenuous.”
A statement signed by Osita Igbe, Special Adviser to the South-East PDP National Vice Chairman, read, “It feeds into an emerging picture of politics in Imo State since April 2011 which is based on dishonourable propaganda and flagrant disregard for the truth.”
The statement also read in parts, “Assuming that such a plot even existed, there is no chance that Colonel Akobundu, a former military officer who knows the value of loyalty, would entrust it to a political turncoat like Uwajumogu.
“It is another cock and bull tale from a discredited government of confidence tricksters who are clutching at any straw for survival.
“It begs the question why anyone would offer a whopping N3billion to impeach a governor who has outlived his usefulness and who is facing definite impeachment by Imo people come 2015.
“If Uwajumogu’s intention in fabricating these lies and misleading innocent journalists into publishing them as news was to blackmail the PDP, it has failed miserably. His worst nightmare scenario is playing out in Imo State. PDP is waxing stronger each day while the megalomaniac, anti-people APGA leadership now relies on fabricated lies to hold on to power.”
