INEC is undergoing a right sizing exercise.

Only six out of the 26 Directors at the headquarters survived the shake-up at the commission.

The official, who sought anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria that while some of the affected officials had accepted their faith, others had threatened to drag the commission to court.

The source said in Abuja on Wednesday that the commission had 67 directors nationwide. He said that the affected directors at the headquarters were either retired or redeployed and assigned to lower offices.

He pointed out that the exercise was aimed at repositioning the commission to meet the emerging challenges.

He said some of the affected directors with two years left in service have been advised to retire with full entitlements or be redeployed to lower offices, adding that some of the directors accepted the options while some rejected it and threatened court action.

He said April 12 has been slated as the handing over date.

INEC had on Tuesday confirmed, at a press briefing, that it was caring out a major shake-up at the commission.
