FCT Election Result Shows Rejection Of Opposition – PDP

Basking in the euphoria of winning five out of six local governments in Saturday’s election in the Federal Capital Territory, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has described the result as a testimony of its popularity among Nigerians despite the merger by opposition parties.

It therefore described the result as an indication that the people had rejected the opposition in spite of their alliance.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Sunday, said the woeful failure of the opposition in the FCT, “which population is made up of Nigerians from all the geo-political zones in the country, is a demonstration of the fate that will befall them in 2015.”

Metuh said the victory in the elections, which he said were largely acknowledged to be free and fair, was an indication that the PDP was still very popular among Nigerians, including those at the grass roots, in spite of the unnecessary harassment and attacks against its image by the opposition elements.

“That we won in five out of the six area councils is a clear testimony that Nigerians have truly accepted the PDP and a demonstration of the fate that will befall the opposition in 2015,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decried the low turnout, which characterised the council elections in the FCT on Saturday, as below the average.

It scored the turnout to be below 40 per cent.
