PDP Chieftain Urges FG To Dialogue With Boko Haram

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Benjamin Apugo, has advised the Federal Government to dialogue with Boko Haram.

He also threw his weight behind formation of All Progressives Congress, APC, by some opposition parties in the country.

According to him, dialogue does not mean weakness on the part of the government. Apugo, however, said the Islamic sect must identify its genuine leaders for the dialogue to hold.

Speaking to journalists, weekend, in Umuahia, Apugo noted that dialogue had become imperative as the crisis in some parts of the country caused by the conflict with the Boko Haram was affecting the nation in many ways.

He said if all other parts of Nigeria were in peace and Borno, Yobe and other parts were in crisis, there was no peace and there would be no progress.

He said: “If the Boko Haram can truly show their face, Federal Government should dialogue with them. It is not a sign of weakness. The problem did not start with President Goodluck Jonathan, but he is today the president, so he should dialogue with them.”

Meanwhile, Prince Apugo has commended the formation of All Progressive Congress, APC, by leading opposition parties.

He described the formation as one of the greatest things to have happened to the nation’s political development, stressing that it would bring greater unity to the country.

Apugo, a member of PDP’s Board of Trustee, BoT, also condemned in harsh words the manner the ruling party was being run today, noting particularly the manner founding fathers and elders who used their resources to form and nurtured the party were relegated to the background.

He also condemned the enormous powers governors elected under the PDP platform were wielding, which he blamed on former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Apugo also rejected the formation of PDP’s Governors’ Forum, saying the leadership of the party was dividing the party with such action.
