Three Lagos Ministries To Work On Saturdays

The Lagos State government said yesterday that three of its over 20 ministries will this week commence skeletal services on Saturdays.

Those involved, according to the state government, are the Ministries of Transportation, Physical Planning and Urban Development and Land Bureau. The state’s Head of Service, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, at a news conference yesterday said the development is geared towards enhancing government’s service to the people.

Prince Ogunlewe said during the weekend services, the Ministry of Transportation will deal with issues of drivers’ training, drivers’ license and traffic enforcement, while the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development will deal with complaints and queries relating to building permits and other relevant matters, while the Land Bureau would deal with issues relating to land.

“To demonstrate our commitment in this regard and deliver on this mandate, the state government has resolved to render skeletal services on Saturdays starting from Saturday March 2, 2013 between the hours of 10. 00 am and 2.00pm. This will give opportunity to those who are not able to access government business during the week to do so”, he said.

Asked whether there are plans by the state government to increase the allowance of the affected workers, Ogunlewe said arrangements have been concluded, adding that “workers will be duly compensated” The Commissioner for Information and Strategy said the latest development is aimed at meeting the needs of Lagosians during weekends, adding that the state would take care of the workers during the extra hours of service. Harping on the arrangements to duly compensate the affected workers, Ibirogba said government has put in place all necessary arrangements to cater for the welfare of the affected workers.

“We will not have come here, if we had not done our home work well. We want to make sure that those people who may want to come here on Saturday are given needed attention. Officials of the banks where certain payment will be made will also be on ground to render their service,” he said.
