"Peter Obi Behind My Sack" – Umeh

The sacked National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh yesterday accused the Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi of being behind the recent Enugu State High Court judgement that sacked him as the boss of the party.

He alleged that Obi was sowing the seed of confusion in the party even as he branded the governor a fake democrat who had no respect for the constitution of APGA.

"Peter Obi Behind My Sack" – Umeh

Enugu High Court presided over by Justice Innocent Umezulike last Friday declared the February 10, 2011 that brought Umeh and other members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) unconstitutional, null and void. It ordered Umeh to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party. Umeh on Tuesday appealed the judgment. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Umeh said the ruling had the imprimatur of Obi.

According to him, the governor demonstrated that he was the shadow behind the ruling against him and other NWC members with text messages to party members for a meeting in Abuja. Besides, he alleged that Obi had lured other NWC members to accept the ruling even when it was against their interest. He said: "Governor Obi has been sending text messages to party members for a meeting in Abuja. The aim of that meeting is to fix a date for a national convention. This has shown that he is behind the Enugu judgment."

Umeh, who was flanked by some officials of the party, accused Obi of acting out of his constitutional power. He said the governor, by the constitution of APGA, had no power to convene a convention.

He counseled the governor to face governance in Anambra and stop destabilising the party. "The governor should stop interfering in the activities of the party and face governance which the people of Anambra elected him for." He expressed confidence that the Appeal Court would upturn the ruling against his leadership.

On other political developments in the country, Umeh said the preoccupation of the party officials was to return APGA to the path of stability.
