The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in Ondo State on Tuesday endorsed the second term bid of Governor Olusegun Mimiko at a rally at Akure.
Both the national and the state leadership of the two workers union said the event was to rally support for Mimiko who had used the Labour platform to touch the lives of the masses in the state.
They said the adoption became necessary because the governor had improved the welfare of the workers in the last three and half years without sacking any of them.
But the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, at a news conference addressed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Wale Ozogoro, in Akure, condemned the action and alleged that the labour leadership was paid to do so.
The PDP spokesperson therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission not to use the workers as its ad-hoc staff during the October 20 governorship election in the state.
However, while addressing the rally, Chairman of the state chapter the NLC, Mrs. Bosede Daramola, enumerated 22 reasons why the workers adopted Mimiko. These, she said, included the payment of N22, 000 as minimum wage to workers, payment of N1.4bn retirement benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government workers.
The TUC chairman in the state, Mr. Ekundayo Soladoye, and the National President of the Joint Negotiation Council of the NLC, Mr. Kiri Mohammed, also commended Mimiko for executing masses-oriented projects.
Mimiko said the move by the workers was a vindication of the efforts of his administration in the last three and half years.
