Fani-Kayode, others join fight for PDP chairmanship position
- Now that the Supreme Court has resolved the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, the battle has shifted to the south-west
- Among those gunning for the position of the party's chairmanship are Femi Fani-Kayode, Bode George and Jimi Agbaje
A political battle might be brewing between former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George and a former aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.
Legit.ng learnt that while the position of the presidential candidate of the party is zoned to the north, there had been clamour for the party’s chairmanship seat to come to the south-west.
As the party commences plans to its convention, the Punch reports that Fani-Kayode and George are two frontline contestants for the position.
The party however has others like Jimi Agbaje and former education minister, Prof Tunde Adeniran, also eyeing the position.

Fani-Kayode was the director of publicity for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation while Agbaje was a governorship candidate for Lagos state under the PDP.
The report quoted Fani-Kayode’s media adviser, Mr Jude Ndukwe, as saying his boss was still consulting and was under pressure to run for the position.
“It is far too early to make this decision but I can tell you that there is a lot of pressure on him from various quarters to run for a key position on the National Working Committee of the party.
“We are still waiting for the zoning formula and the date of the convention.
“It is after all that has been agreed on that we will decide whether he will run for the national chairmanship or anything else or not.

“One thing is clear though and that is that our party needs strong leadership to take on the APC federal government. He has that strength and passion and he has worked very hard for the party.
“He has also been defending democratic values for the last two years. Meetings and consultations are still going on so let us wait and see how it all goes,” Ndukwe said.
Legit.ng earlier reported that former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan said late Monday, July 17, that Nigerians still believe in the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jonathan said despite all its struggling within the past 14 months, it is heart warming to know that Nigerians still believes and trust the largest opposition party.
