State Creation: S-East Governors, Stakeholders Hold Talks In Enugu

State Creation: S-East Governors, Stakeholders Hold Talks In Enugu

Leaders of the South East zone of the country, including governors, former governors, former ministers, traditional rulers held an emergency meeting in Enugu yesterday where they dialogued on how to handle the issue of creation of an additional state from the area.

Although the participants declined  to comment on how the meeting handled the issue of discordant tunes exemplified in the number of state agitations coming from the zone, it appeared they were close to agreeing to a particular demand from the area.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and his Anambra State counterpart and chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Mr. Peter Obi, spoke separately to newsmen but none of them actually gave an inkling as to which particular demand the leaders were likely to adopt.

In the same manner, Senator Ayogu Eze, former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, former MAMSER director-general, Prof, Elochukwu Amaucheazi, former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Justice Eze Ozobu, Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State, former information minister, Chief Nnia Nwodo, acting governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, among others declined comments on what transpired.

However, both Obi and Okorocha who spoke briefly, hinted that the leaders will converge again shortly to take the final decision that would be binding on Ndigbo on the issue of creation of an additional state for the zone.
