The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday March, 16 accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of igniting the crisis that has been rocking the party.
The party claims that the ruling APC is backing Ali Modu Sheriff in order to create unending crisis in what they say is a desperate manner of politics to silence the opposition.
Sahara Reporters reports that in a communique issued at the end of its stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the state capital and attended by the former Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, the party said the APC had continued to fester on the crisis in the PDP.
Mr Faboyede said that the APC had been providing logistics support for the Ali Modu Sheriff led faction to create more crises in the opposition party.
"Its penchant for undermining institutions, compromising elections and also the sponsorship of crisis in our Party by clandestinely providing logistic support to the Sheriff group,” Mr. Faboyede wrote of the APC.
"We also take due notice of the continuing perfidious and meddlesome activities of Sheriff and his band of fifth columnists, he said in the statement. "We condemn them for being willing tools in the hand of the APC, we however wish to assure them that history and posterity will be harsh on them for this infamy and betrayal.”
Mr Faboyede explained that members in the Ondo zone had already showed their support for Senator Ahmed Markafi as leader of the National Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the PDP.
He added that they were also throwing their support for the decision of the Markafi Committee to appeal the judgement of Port Harcourt at the Supreme Court which authenticated Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Party.
He explained that despite the longstanding crisis within PDP leadership, its members would stand firm and remained committed to actions that will reposition PDP in the country.
The PDP factional Chairman said that the party was already working at ending the crisis rocking its fold and assured members of getting the party back to its fit.
"We as stakeholders of the party restate our commitment to the PDP and our absolute desire to stand firm and promote its interest in our various wards across the state.
