- A group within Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that Wike and Fayose were using the Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee to lure PDP supporters into their fold
- The group claimed that both governors have the sole intention of breaking out of the PDP to form another political party
A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mandate Forum said it had uncovered the real reason why Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state are bent on having Senator Ahmed Markafi as the national chairman of the party.
The group claimed that Wike and Fayose are using the Makarfi-led caretaker to lure PDP supporters into their fold with the sole intention of breaking out of the PDP to form another political party, Daily Post reports.
The group also said Fayose and Wike are planning for Makarfi to run for presidency in 2019 with either of them as vice president.
While criticising the two governors for the surreptitious move, the group accused Wike and Fayose of self-serving and described them as “enemies of the party who will stop at nothing to ensure their inordinate ambition is realised.”
Part of the statement reads: “When genuine party leaders and stakeholders are working for an amicable resolution of the current crisis rocking our party, Wike and Fayose are on the other hand selfishly working to become Vice President. They want to use the PDP but if it fails to work for them, float another political party.

“This sad development is what have stalled our growth as a party. As bad as it is we assure Wike and Fayose that we will use every reasonable and lawful means to checkmate their political greed and also ensure that they do not completely destroy our party.”
They, however, noted that the union between the two governors will soon collapse and warned them that no individual is bigger than the party.
“A court of competent jurisdiction has delivered judgment in the matter and if they (Wike and Fayose) have the interest of the PDP in their hearts, it was only nice in the spirit of party loyalty they accept the outcome.”
Meanwhile, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has vowed that Senator Makarfi led faction could not stop him from presiding over the convention of the party slated for June 30.
He, however, said that he was not opposed to reconciliation meeting being held by the party’s stakeholders.
