- He called on all members of the party to sheathe their sword and work with Fayose for the progress of the party
Victor Akande, a member of the Lagos House of Assembly has called on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, who is also the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum to bring peace to the party before the end of March.
Speaking on Monday, January 30, the lawmaker who is a member of the PDP said Fayose should bring every stakeholder on board and also appeal to all aggrieved stalwarts, if need be, to reunite party, Vanguard reports.
Fayose was unanimously appointed him as the new chairman on Friday, January 20, to coordinate the activities of the forum.
Akande called on the governor to use his new position to bring an end to the lingering crisis in the party, asking him to try and reconcile with everybody, including Chief Bode George, a former deputy national chairman; Sen. Buruji Kashamu and others, to move forward.
He said: “There is a very big task for him to accomplish and that task is to bring back PDP together on a common front. Things have fallen apart and the centre cannot hold, but our centre must hold. Fayose has a task of ensuring a lasting solution to all the political bickering in the party.
"He has now assumed a position where he has to begin to beg everybody, even those that do not share his ideology. “He must as a matter of urgency broker peace, beg and close ranks with everybody so as to put the party in a right perspective. That is the challenge he must face between now and March to right the wrongs. Fayose must learn how to beg now if PDP must come back.”
Akande noted that there was no permanent enmity in politics, calling on all members to forget the past and continue to work for the progress of the party.
He also called on members of the National Assembly on the platform of the PDP and other stakeholders to rally round Fayose in the party’s interest.
Akande also applauded Fayose and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers for being at the forefront of performing roles of opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP is optimistic that Fayose would perform on his new assignment with responsibility and candour.
According to Fayose, only the PDP can rescue Nigeria from its myriad of problems as the nation moves closer to another general election in 2019.
