President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Gambia on Friday, January 13, ahead of the proposed mediation meeting with President Yahya Jammeh.
Buhari arrived Banjul, having pushed forward his visit, following a statement by Jammeh, asking the high Level ECOWAS mediation mission team led by Buhari not to come to Banju on Wednesday, January 11, for peace talks.
The Gambia is expected to inaugurate a new president on January 19, but despite losing the December 1 election, President Jammeh had insisted he won’t step down.

Meanwhile, the political party of President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia, on Friday, January 13, filed a request with the Supreme Court for an injunction to block the swearing in of his rival, Adama Barrow.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Emmanuel Fagbenle, confirmed receipt of the petition, which was filed by Jammeh’s Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC).
