Internal crisis has been rocking major political parties in Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been trying to put their house in order but some of the members have had enough.

For months, there have been reports that some aggrieved members of these parties were planning to form a new mega party which will oust the ruling APC in the 2019 general elections.

New mega party to be formed soon

The new mega party is gradually taking shape

A source disclosed that barring any last-minute change of plans, the proposed mega opposition party in the country will be formed before the end of March.

The formation of the new party is taking shape gradually and here are things you should know.

1. Its name

Report has it that the movers behind the new party have decided to name it the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

2. Logo

According to report, the logo of the new party will depict a hand holding a book.

3. PDP, APC alliance

Report has it that the party is being formed by some aggrieved members of the PDP and the APC.

4. Support of top APC and PDP chieftains

Sure, the big names behind the mega party would not come out now but, rumuor has it that the proposed mega party has the tacit support of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP, national leader of the APC Bola Ahmed Tinbubu and former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

However, Tinubu and Atiku have denied their involvement in the proposed party as they are solely committed to the APC the ideals that birthed the party.

5. Strongholds of the mega party

Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu in, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Cross River, Bayelsa, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Lagos, Gombe, Taraba, Adamawa and Benue states are already considered to be the strongholds of the proposed mega party.

6. Registration

The new party would be sending documents for formal registration as a political party to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) soon.

7. Zoning

Slots for its national executive committee have been zoned to the various regions of the country. The national chairmanship position has been zoned to the north central while the south west gets the deputy national chairman position. The national secretary and national legal adviser positions have been zoned to the south east and north west respectively.
