Buhari has no moral right to prevail on Jammeh to leave office - Omokri

Reno Omkri, the former special adviser on new media to former President Goodluck Jonathan has new reasons to castigate President Muhammadu Buhari over the latter’s actions and leadership style.
Buhari recently visited the Gambia with heads of some African countries to prevail on Yahya Jammeh to step down from the leadership of the country after he was woefully defeated in a presidential election by Adama Barrow.
He had congratulated Barrow and promised a smooth hand-over only to make a u-turn.
While some have hailed the decision of Buhari and his counterparts over the move, Omokri says the president does not have any moral right to prevail another person to step down.

Omokri’s argument is that Buhari has been doing his best to muzzle the opposition using every means including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other such agencies.
Illustrating with the 2011 election, Omokri also wondered if Buhari would have conceded defeat if he was in Jammeh’s condition.
“The interesting thing about the Yahya Jammeh episode is that President Muhammadu Buhari is, as I write this, in Gambia to urge Jammeh to accept defeat.
“Does President Buhari himself know how to accept defeat? Three times he was defeated and three times he refused to concede.

“What will he tell Jammeh when Jammeh reminds him of his history? What moral authority does he have to preach to Jammeh?
“Even if he says 2003 and 2007 were rigged, what about 2011 which was one of our most transparent elections?
“Did he concede? By going to Gambia, President Buhari only strengthens Yahya Jammeh's argument,” he queried.
Omokri further lamented that while Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, has put Hillary Clinton behind him and is focusing on how best to lead his country, Buhari has continued to blame Jonathan 18 months after taking over as Nigeria’s leader.
He said: “Donald J Trump has not even been sworn in, yet he has already turned his attention away from Hillary Clinton and moved on with his life. Yet 18 months after President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in, he is still blaming Goodluck Jonathan! How do you expect the country to move forward when you the leader have not moved on?”
