Singer Onyeka Onwenu encourages Igbo people

- The former executive director of National Centre for Women Development Onyeka Onwenu has called on the Igbo people to shun defeat

- Onwenu said since the civil war, Igbos have been known as a people focused on surviving any situation

- She also called for an opportunity for a female president in Nigeria

Nigerian singer and former executive director of the National Centre for Women Development Onyeka Onwenu has said that no Igbo person was born to accept defeat.

Speaking at the Launch of "The Land of my Birth", a book written by Abraham Nnadi in Lagos, the popular singer said, since the civil war, the Igbo race has been called never to accept defeat.

She said the Igbos have remained survivor during and after the war and always rise up and move forward against all odds.

Aside the provoking thoughts and facts outlined in the book, Onwenu said Land of my Birth, gives the Igbo people an opportunity to read about themselves.

“But, particularly, the book speaks to Ndigbo of what we had gone through and have continued to go through in this country.

We are never a people that will accept defeat. Having gone through hardship and deprivation, we have remained stronger," she said.

Onwenu encouraged all Igbo people to continue to strive towards survival and fulfilment.

She also called for an opportunity for a female Nigerian president, stating that if given the opportunity, women can heal and nurture the world.

Meanwhile, after the Nigerian army declared the establishment of "operation python dance" in the South East region, the Indigenous People of Biafra has called on its members to exercise restraint while dealing with the security agents.

The IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful while declaring the group own strategy, "operation David dance" said God will not permit the extermination of its members.

Emma said the IPB is innocuous of its struggle for the freedom of Biafra.
