Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai has had his name dragged into a bribery scandal which has deepened the crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Premium Times reports that some officials of the APC have accused El-Rufai’s aide, Uba Sani of offering bribes to members in order to get Senator Shehu Sani suspended.
The APC executives, who are of Ward 6, Kaduna South local government area made this allegation on Saturday, November 26 during a press conference.
They claimed that Uba offered them N3million to suspend Senator Sani.
Abbas Anni, the chairman of the APC in the ward, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, called on the anti-corruption commission, EFCC, to investigate the allegation.
“It is very unfortunate that this ugly move is propping up again after the disgraceful episode of a N500,000 bribe that was purportedly given by the same set of people to instigate the alleged suspension of Senator Shehu Sani about a year ago,” he said.
However, other members in the ward disagreed. They claimed that the executives have been beneficiaries of gifts from Senator Sani and are lying about the bribery allegation.
Premium Times quotes one Auwal Abdulhameed, who claimed to be the ward secretary, as saying Anni got a car from the senator while “the other eight (executive members opposed to Mr. Sani’s suspension) got motorcycles.”
“We have petitioned to the Commissioner of Police and we shall sue for defamation of character over these accusations that we received N3 million from SA on Political to Governor El-Rufai.”
The animosity between El Rufai and Sani has remained a long-standing one with the former succeeding in getting the latter suspended from the APC sometime ago.
Meanwhile, another governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers state is also entangled in a N2 billion scandal as revealed by APC in the state.
The party is asking the governor to immediately retrieve and return the sum of N2 billion of Rivers money he allegedly donated to the Ondo state branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the electioneering.
