Daily Trust reports that the Munir Garba Waziri-led caretaker committee of the party with members from the six geo-political zones is to spend three three months.

This is to enable it work out modalities to host a national convention where new leaders of the party would be elected.

The report quoted a communiqué issued by the party's NEC and read by the secretary of the national caretaker committee, Ifeanyi Igwe, as demanding from the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, a probe of the conduct of the sacked national chairman, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim.

Stressing that the sack of the executive members was to strengthen the party ahead pof 2019, the party committee said: "It becomes impracticable and expedient to save the dying situation of the party at the national level.

"NEC has immediately dissolved all the national principal officers of the party currently occupying the office for their compromise on the oath they subscribe to promote the party."

But the sacked chairman of the party, Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim said the crisis in the party was because of the presidential ambition of a particular notable figure in the country.

He said: "I am aware that a certain big politician is bent on removing me from the party. In any case, I am just hearing about my removal now and I will react at the opportune time."
