- Nigerians are, just like during the 2015 general election, divided again as former President Goodluck Jonathan clocks 59
- While some describe Jonathan as a hero and one of the best presidents the country ever had, others see the opposite
Nigerians took to various social media platforms on Sunday, November 20 to review the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as he marks his 59th birthday.
Jonathan, a former vice president, ruled the country between 2011 and 2015 after winning the general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A year before his election, he was made the substantive president of the country following the tension and controversy that resulted from his predecessor's illness and how the situation was managed by an alleged cabal.
He was floored in 2015 by Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a tough election that saw the country polarised along religious and ethnic lines.
While some Nigerians think he is one of the best presidents the country ever had, some others have castigated him over his leadership style.
To the former, Jonathan remains a hero while the latter think he should be held responsible for leading the country into recession.
His government was also characterised with alleged massive corruption by members of his cabinet and other political appointees. However, his supporters think the government of Buhari is only using this as propaganda to cover up for his own shortfall.
